Chinese New Year 2008 - Year of the Rat

So this is sis CW's year. She was born in the year of the Rat. We spent the first day of CNY having a nice lie-in, trekked over to VivoCity in our new clothes with me determined to watch the latest Stephen Chow's movie CJ7. Well, we had nowhere else to go with no family homes to visit in Singapore.

For those who don't know Stephen Chow, he is the greatest comedian (in my opinion) Hong Kong has ever produced. I have seen his bestseller Kung Fu Hustle about a million times and wouldn't mind watching it over and over again. His long awaited new movie was out on CNY and I just had to go and see it. Of course, whilst all the Chinese were doing family visits, the rest of the country were out and about enjoying the public holiday. Needless to say the movie was sold out and we had no choice but to get a quick bite to eat and back to my lonely hotel.

I thought of a brilliant title for my post 'My Lonely Existence' as we walked back from the MRT station to my hotel. It was so quiet even the escalator was shut down due to the lack of use. But then, what is there to blog about a lonely existence??

We went to watch the fireworks at Esplanade in the evening and had a brilliant hawker centre style seafood dinner. Check this out:

After dinner we walked towards the river for the fireworks show and I was quite mesmerised by the night view of Singapore from across the river. It reminds me of Manhattan. (I'm thinking of going to work in NYC for a couple of years after I'm done with Singapore!!)

The fireworks display was only 15mins long. But at least we had some sort of a CNY.
